BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) Update: Fraser River Tunnel Project: Engagement Workshop (November 29, 2023)

Highway 99 Tunnel Program

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is proposing to replace the existing George Massey Tunnel with a new, eight-lane immersed tube tunnel which will include a separated active transportation corridor for cyclists and pedestrians.

In addition to the open house opportunities next week, we invite you to participate in a 90-minute virtual meeting on November 29, 2023, from 2-3:30pm.

Join us and register here.

At this meeting, the Project team will present the latest project information, including an updated reference design concept. In addition, we seek to understand concerns and potential Project effects that are most important to you and the groups that you represent.

Update on the Project’s Environmental Assessment Application

After successfully completing the Early Engagement phase of the Environmental Assessment, the Project received a positive Readiness Decision on September 14, 2023, and is now in the Process Planning phase. This phase will determine how the EA is carried out, including what information must be provided, how the information will be gathered, and how people will be engaged and involved in the Environmental Assessment. Input provided will help ensure the delivery of the Project meets the needs of communities during construction and well into the future. See EAO’s engage page for more information.

Thank you for your continued interest in the project and we hope to see you on November 29th!
