YVR Update: YVR North Runway Modernization Program - March Update

Here’s a brief update on our North Runway Program, as we will soon be heading into the construction phase:

In recent months, crews have been continuing early works in preparation for this main construction work, including the replacement of old runway light cans with newer models.

With overnight and paving work set to begin in April, crews have been refining maintenance and operational response plans and conducting mock trials.

Once construction begins, you shouldn’t notice a change to aircraft noise, as we are not adjusting the use of our runways because of the project. As well, we don’t anticipate any significant noise or light impacts from the construction.

Equipment continues to be delivered to the site via Ferguson Road, and during construction, trucks will use the route to bring asphalt over to the site during the duration of the construction schedule. We’ve worked to time the trucks to ensure optimal flow and noise management, meaning trucks will not come all at once or in close sequence.

As well, you may know but we have a bi-monthly newsletter that shares more details about the specific work being undertaken. The next edition is scheduled for mid-April.

To sign up for the newsletter, and to learn more about the program, you can visit YVR’s resource hub at https://www.yvr.ca/en/business/north-runway-modernization.
