YVR Update: The Sea Island Climate Resilience Project

The Sea Island Climate Resilience Project is a proactive solution to address climate-related challenges, including implications of rising sea levels and increased risk of flooding. The project will see YVR upgrade the dike and drainage system on Sea Island by raising the existing perimeter dikes.

Beginning in Fall 2024, upgrade work will begin on the eastern part of the Sea Island Conservation Area, known as SICA East. A portion of the SICA East area, including a walking trail, will be temporarily closed as this work takes place to ensure the safety of the community and workers.

Site investigation work is scheduled to take place in Spring & Summer of 2024. The improvement work is slated to begin in Fall 2024 and is expected to be complete by Fall 2025. The trail will reopen once the work is completed.

We recognize the temporary closure of the SICA East trail and surrounding area will be challenging for some trail users. Signage will be posted at the trail head in the coming weeks, and we’ve created a page on YVR.ca with the project information which will be updated as the project progresses.
